emergency Dentistry

Emergencies are a special class of dental problems that require immediate treatment. If you are in severe pain, experiencing ongoing bleeding, or in need of saving a tooth, NAPA Family Dental’s doctor, Dr. Antani, can provide prompt and comprehensive care to relieve your pain and restore oral health.

We offer two types of sedation that can help you relax while we perform your emergency treatment.

What Counts As a Dental Emergency?

If you are in severe oral pain or worried that one or more of your teeth may be in imminent danger, we encourage you to take the matter seriously. If you have suffered trauma to the mouth and are experiencing significant discomfort and bleeding as a result, have someone drive you to our office. The earlier we can begin treating your tooth, the better your chances are of enjoying optimal oral health outcomes. Common dental emergencies include:

  • A loose tooth
  • Root canal infection
  • Loose or missing restoration
  • A knocked-out tooth
  • Abscess

Emergency Treatment Options

Depending on the nature of your dental emergency, our office offers multiple treatment options.

Knocked-out Tooth

If you have experienced a knocked-out tooth, take care not to touch the root of your tooth. If the tooth is dirty, wash the lost tooth out without scrubbing it and place it near your cheek or in a cup of water. Then, have someone drive you to our office or the nearest dentist within 30 minutes.

Loose Restoration

Crowns, fillings, and other restorations can become loose for a number of reasons. We understand the embarrassment that can accompany a crown that has fallen out. Dr. Antani will work promptly to reattach the restoration or to provide you with a new filling or prosthetic. In some cases, you may need to be fitted with a temporary prosthetic while your final one is fabricated.

Root CanalS

One common cause of a dental emergency is a root canal infection. If bacteria reach the inner pulp of your tooth, the infection can spread quickly and cause severe pain. After using local anesthesia and possibly sedation, Dr. Antani can clean the inner chamber of your tooth before sealing your tooth with an inlay, onlay, or crown.

Extractions

If your tooth is infected or decayed to the point where it must be removed, our team at NAPA Family Dental can provide safe and effective tooth extraction. Tooth extraction is far more comfortable than many patients expect. After local anesthesia and possibly sedation are used, Dr. Antani will use a special tool to gently loosen and then extract your tooth.

Root Canal Treatment

We understand that hearing you need a root canal can be a frightening experience. The reputation of root canals often stems from the pain of the initial infection, not the treatment itself. In most cases, the procedure is comfortable and provides immediate relief by saving your tooth from extraction. At NAPA Family Dental, we are committed to providing you with a comfortable and efficient experience. We use state-of-the-art technology to make root canal therapy as pleasant as possible, often completing treatment in just one or two appointments. If you're experiencing tooth pain, please contact us right away so we can determine the cause and get you on the path to a pain-free smile.

What to Expect During a Root Canal

The purpose of a root canal is to save your natural tooth by removing the infection inside it. The procedure begins by ensuring you're completely comfortable, using a local anesthetic to numb the area and, if you choose, dental sedation to help you relax. Once you're numb, the infected pulp and nerves are carefully removed. The inside of the tooth is then disinfected and filled with a sealing material to prevent any future infection. After a period of healing, you will return to our office for the final step: restoring the tooth. Because the procedure can weaken the tooth's integrity, it's essential to protect it, often with a dental crown, to restore its function and appearance for years to come.
